Balsall’s Got the Voice – 2015 competition launch!

Balsall Common Festival organisers are gearing up for the start of this year’s Balsall’s Got the Voice, with a sequence of first round qualifying heats that gets underway on Friday 17th April 2015 at The Berkswell and District Royal British Legion.

Organisers were keen to capitalise on the success of last year’s inaugural competition which unearthed an array of talent, a contingent of which have already advanced significantly since September’s Finals. Balsall Common Festival Chairman Craig Burgess picks up the story:

“Last year we were taken by surprise by the high standard of competition and have really enjoyed keeping tabs on last year’s competitors, at least three of whom have enjoyed quality studio time since the finals.  Paris Georgia in particular, is really flying at the moment.  She’s enjoying regular airplay on BBC Radio and made an impressive looking video to promote an EP that goes on sale the same day this year’s competition gets underway.  We’re really looking forward now to doing it all again and seeing more new faces.”

Paris Georgia – Stranger to You

As Craig says, Paris Georgia has made impressive progress musically since last year’s finals.  Thanks to lots of hard work gigging up and down the country, taking in well-known music venues such as Birmingham’s iconic Jam House, Paris has earned the chance to record and publish her own original material.

Paris’s Stranger to You EP is set for release on iTunes the same day Balsall’s Got the Voice 2015 gets underway (Friday 17th April 2015):

In addition to the 12 month management deal with Brum Beat Music Ltd, this year’s competition sees the introduction of age group categories, with winner’s prizes for each category.

The 12 month Brum Beat management deal comes with coaching, mentoring, assistance securing gigs at reputable music venues and for a sufficiently hard working and determined winner, more help besides.

Balsall’s Got the Voice 2015

The idea behind the competition is community involvement as much as it is about the contest itself:

“We want the community to come out and enjoy these competitions, with families welcome to attend the Heats and Quarter Finals” says Craig Burgess

“Last year’s qualifiers were lots of fun and people really got into the shows, and we have the bar facilities available through every round of competition too, so everybody can come and relax at the end of a hard week’s work.”

There will be three first round heats and a further Quarter Finals night all held at The Berkswell and District Royal British Legion, before the competition arrives at the Balsall Common Festival on Saturday 19th September, where a lucky dozen will compete through Semi Finals and Finals on the Main Festival Stage.

Competition Entries

Festival Chairman Craig Burgess says:

“We’re still looking at who to invite to the first qualifiers on Friday 17th April at the moment, so anyone who sees this in time and is able to rush a quick snippet of themselves performing to could still receive an invitation to come and play.”

When queried whether a snippet is enough to invite people to the heats Craig quickly confirmed:

“Yes we only need a snippet not a whole song. It doesn’t take long to work out if someone can sing and perform a bit.”

“We’re also interested in hearing from any local artists who don’t wish to compete, are maybe already established on the local music scene and would like to perform as part of our shows while the judges are deliberating.”
