By the Community for the Community

Organisers aim to build on the success of the first event at the same venue, which raised money for local causes and was held as part of the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee celebrations, using the successful formula from 2012 as the basis on which to build.

“It’s by the community for the community”. explains Event Chairman Marie-Louise Marsden.

“Once again many village organisations have joined together over the last year to help plan this village event. Last year £2,500 was distributed to village organisations including the Village Hall, the Jubilee Centre, the Brownies and the Scouts. We also made a contribution to the village Christmas lights. This year we hope to put more money into the Village Fete Fund to be spent in the community. No decisions have been made about what will be done with this year’s proceeds so we do welcome suggestions from the community.”

“The fancy dress competition is back again and after much deliberation we have decided the theme will be “100 years ago” in recognition of the centenary year celebrations at Balsall Common Primary School.”

Outside the main arena there will also be live music from the Giocoso Saxaphone Quartet throughout the afternoon, an aero model display and in addition to the arena dog display there will be a separate mini-dog show with prizes for best young dog handlers and ‘waggiest tail’ sponsored by local businesses. Further updates about the event timetable and attractions will be published at BalsallCom.Com in the weeks leading up to the event.

Live music at the Party in the park

Bigger, better, louder and longer is the theme for 2013 as Party in the Park, with headliners A Few Good Men the highlight of the show, as promoter Craig Burgess explains:

“The live-music section of this event is being put together on a bigger scale than last year, this time with separate outdoor stage, sound and lighting away from the main building, with a wider variety of music.”

“A the moment it’s looking like we’ll have DJs playing from around 5pm followed by our live acts, Jam House regular Dino Baptiste followed by A Few Good Men whose mix of hits from across the decades promises offers plenty of variety for music lovers of all ages. These musicians are top-class and between them have performed in bands with lots of hits behind them, including the Electric Light Orchestra among others.”
