Berkswell & Balsall Rugby Football Club (BBRFC) was founded in 1981 by Les and Steve Edwards. The club progressed from modest beginnings borrowing space at the Heart of England School, to fielding three regular senior sides, as well as an occasional Veterans side.
The senior 1st team squad has been climbing the leagues at a steady pace and began the 2012/13 season in The Midlands West Division One, a particularly good standard of semi-professional rugby.
The club also has a thriving youth section and vibrant social scene and has earned a fine reputation not only for the standard of rugby they play, but also for the quality of their social events, which they open up to the wider community.

Berkswell Cricket Club’s senior elite team won promotion to the Birmingham & District League’s Premier Division last season and will spend 2012 playing at the highest level outside county cricket. The thriving junior section, under new Youth Manager Richard Blundell will be seeking to emulate the feats of the senior side in building a long term future of the club. The club is always on the lookout for emerging talent and is currently holding regular junior indoor winter sessions on Sunday evenings at the Heart of England School. Richard Blundell says:

It is with deep regret that we report the passing of a great servant of the community in the early hours of Sunday morning. Ian Huckerby was well known to many people in the village for his 24 years of unstinting service as Youth Manager at Berkswell Cricket Club. He was deeply admired and respected by many children, parents and players at the club and on a wider level through his sterling work with youth players at Warwickshire County Cricket Club. To many cricketers, Ian’s contribution to their lives went way beyond cricket itself and his loss has been deeply felt. BalsallCom.Com will be publishing an in depth tribute in due course and residents are invited to contribute their reflections.
In the meantime we are able to report Ian’s funeral will take place at Oakley Wood Crematorium next Friday, 3rd February 2012.
