The Sports Association’s Spooky Halloween bonfire returns for another showing this Thursday evening (31st October) at the Lant, best known as home to the local cricket and tennis club on Meeting House Lane. The family-friendly fancy dress spectacular brings more spook-tacular fireworks from the returning professional pyrotechnicians at Halo FX, alongside a range of great attractions to keep the entire family happy, including the popular licensed bar facilities. As with previous years the entire community is invited to join the party.

Note: there will be no family tickets on the gate on the night so advanced purchases offer great way to save some money. Last year’s event won rave reviews from attendees.
Berkswell and Balsall Common Tennis Club have devised a range of fun activities for all ages as part of the eight hours of entertainment and activities lined up for the 2nd Balsall Common fete and Party in the Park at Meeting House Lane on Saturday 28th September.
Tennis Club officials and coaches will be on hand supervising free sessions of cardio-tennis, target hitting against a ball machine and a fun factory for kids, with timetable as follows:
2:00 – 4:00 Fun Factory (kids)
2:30 – 3:00 Ball machine (target tennis)
3:00 – 3:30 Cardio-tennis
3:30 – 4:00 Ball machine (target tennis)
4:00 – 4:30 Cardio-tennis
The Fun Factory brings in a range of specially designed equipment to make things great fun for the youngsters, while the cardio-tennis offers sessions with the main focus on exercise and calorie burning to music, a great introduction to tennis movements, where tennis ability is definitely not required. Visitors are also invited to have a go at the extremely popular target hitting at balls served from the ball machine.
All tennis activities at the fete are free for all during the advertised times above.

Chris Tarrant brings a pro-celebrity team to play Berkswell Cricket Club in a T20 match next Sunday in Balsall Common for a combined charity and cricket club fundraiser hosted by former England Test cricketer Fred Rumsey.
The game will see Chris Tarrant lead a side containing professional cricketers plus celebrity friends against a Berkswell XI, depleted by the proposed theft of homegrown Warwickshire star Tom Milnes and their current club skipper and Warwickshire batting legend Dominic Ostler. Former England cricketer Darren Maddy, whom has also turned out for Berkswell this season is also expected to take to the field for the TV presenter’s team.
Members of Berkswell and Balsall Common Tennis Club on Meeting House Lane are looking forward to their annual Finals Day tomorrow (Sunday 8th September), a day which combines competitive inter-club tennis from early morning through to lunchtime buffet and afternoon barbecue social and drinks.
Visitors are welcome to visit the club on Meeting House Lane to see the finals, or to join in with the party atmosphere and find out what the club is all about.
