Keep on Running – Balsall Common style

Running is THE thing to do in Balsall Common this summer! Day and night there are always runners out and about in the village. Interest has been heightened by Balsall Common’s first ever Fun Run on 20 September. Coupled with a newly formed running club for the village, it’s a great time to pull on your trainers and get running.

Entering an event or joining a club are great ways to get started and stay motivated. Or if you are feeling really keen why not do both!

It’s not too late to enter the Lily Mae Foundation Fun Run, part of the Balsall Common Festival. Entries are just £13 for the 5k or 10k race. Kids aged 5-10 can enter mini Fun Runs that take place at the Lant on the Saturday afternoon. There will be no entries on the day so do sign up in advance. www.lilymaefoundation.org/funrun

If you want to train with others, the Balsall Common Running Club meets on Thursdays at 6.30pm and at 9am on Saturday mornings at The Lant (between tennis courts and cricket pitch), Meeting House Lane, Balsall Common. A star-studded Berkswell side containing two former internationals went clear at the top of the Premier Division of the world-famous Birmingham & District League at Meeting House Lane yesterday, despite their game being abandoned due to rain, thanks to bonus points earned whilst dominating their top of the table clash against visitors West Bromwich.

Berkswell now stand alone at the head of a league that boasts the best club sides from across Warwickshire, The West Midlands, Worcestershire, Staffordshire and Shropshire.

Berkswell’s official scorer Trevor Jordan reports on yesterday’s abandoned game:

Birmingham and District Premier League – Premier Division
