It’s a big day for Berkswell & Balsall Rugby Football Club on Saturday 9th March as they put on lunch for family, friends, sponsors and members of the local community on a big-match and charity day at the club. The Bs 1st team will be playing a crunch fixture against Ludlow and there will be a Red Nose Day Charity radio station on site too, all of which is open to participation from interested members of the local community.
The pre-match lunch gets underway at 12:30 before Berkswell’s 1st XV take on fellow strugglers Ludlow in their ongoing battle to remain in the tough semi-professional Mids West One Division for another season. There will be plenty of time for lunchtime visitors to finish their food and enjoy the game which kicks of at 3pm.

Berkswell & Balsall Rugby Club is holding a Vice Presidents lunch with an ‘open-house’ policy from 1.30pm tomorrow (Saturday 13th October), which includes a pre-match light buffet before the 1st XV take on visitors Hereford in their West Midlands Division 1 clash.
The club, which now enjoys playing it’s rugby at an impressive semi-professional level, is keen to welcome all-comers: ex-players; Vice Presidents; supporters; or curious passers by. Access will be £3 on the gate for non members, paid up members go free, with the option to purchase match-day programmes for £1.50. The fixture itself gets underway at 3:00pm.

Berkswell & Balsall Common Rugby Club are putting on a charity Ladies Day from midday 29th September 2012 in memory of Club President and stalwart, Mr Clive Horlor, who lost his battle against cancer in June. Clive was a well-known businessman in Balsall Common and dedicated much of his time to helping the club move forward. Clive was also known to put his hand in his pocket to sponsor the 1st team and to underwrite various club functions.

We will be writing in more detail soon, but we have been asked to share the sad news of the recent loss of one of the most respected and popular figureheads in our community, Mr Clive Horlor, who passed away a week ago Sunday, after a short and sudden illness.
Clive, a 32 year long resident of the village and committed family-man, was the current President of Berkswell & Balsall Common Rugby Club, of six years standing and was well known to many villagers as a prominent local businessman, operating the Running Racket and Acorn Printing.

Steve Wake reports on Berkswell & Balsall Rugby Club’s emphatic Midlands West 2 play-off victory against ‘Old Salts’ on Saturday 28th April 2012, which saw them earn passage to Midlands West Division One. Berkswell’s season will have taken many by surprise, having kicked off on minus 15 points, thanks to a stiff penalty levied by league officials in consideration for a mass-brawl during a league encounter the previous season.
Berkswell’s achievement has been widely noted in the sporting press, with the play-off victory seen by many observers as the icing on the cake after an almost impossible achievement.

A determined Berkswell earned the right to celebrate their excellent 30th anniversary season in style with a winning performance in this play-off match to see who would earn passage into Midlands West Division 1. Berkswell’s 15 point pre-season points deduction was not enough in the end to deny this determined squad from continuing their remarkable ascent through the divisions.
