Visitors to the Royal British Legion on Station Road this evening (Saturday 25th January) are invited to bring along a favourite tune on vinyl or CD for an informal variation on a theme familiar to listeners of BBC Radio’s Desert Island Discs show.
Guests will be invited to play a favourite tune and share what makes it so special for them, with an anonymity option for the shy and nervous, as Committee Chair Carole Price explains:
“Its a very laid back informal format. If people don’t want to read out their own memory, or remain anonymous, one of the Committee can read them out instead.”
This evening’s event is part of a new programme of community-focused events at the Royal British Legion so new visitors will be most welcome.

Just a short piece to wish an extremely excited happy local couple all the best as they celebrate their wedding with friends and family today. Helen Tims is quite possibly the happiest girl in the world today as she accepts the hand in marriage of fiance Brett Wilkins, the man of her dreams, on the exquisitely chosen date of 11/11/11. Former Heart of England pupil Helen admits to being so excited she’s struggling to sleep, but that’s unlikely to get in the way of a fantastic day of celebrations.
In the build up to today’s wedding the couple have received a flood of congratulatory wishes for their local church wedding, which given the date, will be followed most appropriately, by a reception at the Royal British Legion on Station Road, Balsall Common.
