The increasingly popular Open Mic nights hosted by Yaz Zahran, leader of the local Triple Fret performing arts group at the Berkswell Legion is back this evening (Friday 26th September 2014), with a number of participants fresh from their involvement in Balsall Common Festival’s Balsall’s Got the Voice competition.
Tonight is 60s night and the usual Triple Fret crew will be joined by visiting performers in an event that’ss open to all, from spectators to performers.
The show gets underway at 8:15pm and is free to enter. Anyone interested in performing is welcome to call Yaz with any queries on 07983 544636.
It’s the family-friendly quiz night complete with children’s questions and fish and chip supper at the Berkswell and District Royal British Legion this Saturday 27th September and the whole community is invited to join in the fun.
Quiz starts at 8pm and supper is served at 9:30pm.
Entry fee is £5 per head.

Organisers of Balsall’s Got the Voice have set their stall out to find top talent by sourcing a recording contract for the overall winner of an acoustic music competition which concludes at the Balsall Common Festival on Saturday 20th September. Qualifiers from tonight’s final qualifying competition at The Berkswell Royal British Legion (Friday 12th September 2014 – at 8:15pm) will join seven previous qualifiers in a race for the top prize on Finals Day.
Last minute entries are still looking possible with just hours to go so local talent is encouraged to turn up at the Berkswell Royal British Legion for sound-checks from around 6:30pm. The venue is on Station Road opposite Berkswell railway station.
Regular youthful attendees of Tuesday Night Triple Fret sessions at the Berkswell Legion will be showing off the fruits of a month’s labour by taking to the stage this evening for their Big Band Open Mic night. Our local talent will be taking on Big Band classics from the 50s onwards. Performers have been invited to dress-to-kill.

Performers have been invited to take on Rat Pack classics by music heroes such as Frank Sinatra, James Dean and Sammy Davis Jr, alongside Big Band works by modern day exponents such as Michael Buble.

New visitors are actively encouraged to come down and sign-in as guests of a member, as part of the Legion’s ongoing community membership drive. There’s also happy hour from 5:30pm prior to the big event in the adjacent lounge bar.
Berkswell British Legion is showing World Cup football on the big screen tonight as England take on Uruguay.
The Legion is on a community-embracing membership drive at the moment and welcomes new visitors, to come and sign-in as guests of a member to view the facilities, enjoy a drink and this summer’s World Cup atmosphere.
