Birmingham band The Fortunes have been announced as the headline act at The Railway Inn’s Jubilee celebrations on the National Holiday dedicated to the Queen’s Jubilee on Tuesday 5th June 2012.  The 4 piece act enjoyed many hits in the swinging sixties and went on to greater success in the 1970′s, including  United States, where their dual lead singers’ voices can still be heard on Coca Cola adverts.

New Year Party at the Railway Inn

For anybody looking to make last minute arrangements for a New Year celebration, there may still be tickets available at the Railway Inn on Station Road, Balsall Common.

The party starts at 8pm but as the party is ticket only, enquiries and purchases would need to be made in advance during the earlier afternoon opening hours of 12 noon till 4pm.

Although the party will run until late, ticket holders are advised there will be strictly no entry after 11pm.

Obituary: John Crawford

John Crawford, a well liked and respected regular visitor to the Railway Inn, Balsall Common, passed away recently and well wishers are invited to attend a ceremony to celebrate his life this Friday 25th November.

The ceremony is scheduled to be held at Canley Crematorium at 1pm and well wishers are invited to celebrate his life afterwards at the Railway Inn, a place he enjoyed frequenting.

Railway bridge strike at Berkswell in mobile home “too small for hole” shocker

Bridge strikes of one sort or another are a regular occurrence at the railway underpass next to Berkswell Station but last Sunday saw a piece of motoring buffoonery of epic proportions as a driver conjured up a jaw-dropping ‘wedgie’ when attempting to tow a mobile home through the bolt-hole, without success.

This epic motoring fail was first signalled to finely tuned ears in the vicinity by a tremendous bang, followed by tell-tale scraping and crumpling sounds as the plucky caravan lost its’ battle to remain fully intact all the way through the hole. The sound and sight of the stranded family camping unit prompted a sudden assembly of onlookers who made themselves useful initially by laughing and taking pictures and stuff. Eye witness, photographer and incident trouble-shooter Harry Parker helped paint the scene,
