Residents from six streets in Balsall Common were evacuated amid fears of the discovery of an unexploded bomb, which turned out to be a terrifying old engine part. Residents were cleared from their homes in a 100 metre radius surrounding a location in Speedwell Drive after a resident unearthed the scary looking device whilst digging their garden.
Balsall Common crime statistics for October were reported to the Residents Association meeting earlier in November as follows:
• 8 burglaries of dwellings: Station Road, Ashley Way, Balsall Street (daytime), Temple Avenue, Frog Lane (daytime), Greenfield Ave (daytime), Meeting House Lane (daytime), Kenilworth Road (daytime).

Reconstruction of dogs making their "descent"
Police dogs were witnessed out in force in Balsall Common’s village centre today under the guidance of handlers carrying out spot checks on shoppers as they went about their business. The move, which shocked regular shoppers, included visits to a number of commercial premises including the One-Stop.
Balsall Common’s Police Shop in the main shopping area on Station Road may be put up for relocation as West Midlands Police Authority consider cost cutting options to meet their ever decreasing operating budget.
The spending review could see the shop uprooted and relocated to the Police occupied premises on Holly Lane, removing a central presence and putting a question mark over what to do with Parish Council funded CCTV equipment on the premises which has been instrumental in solving crimes in the village.

Police are appealing for witnesses after a fatal car crash in Meriden at 11am on Friday morning. A 19 year old passenger died in the collision and a 21 year old arrested on suspicion of causing death by reckless driving.

West Midlands Police
Criminal gangs are plotting different ways of getting motorists, especially women, to stop and get out of their vehicles. One of the latest developments is for gangs to place a children’s car seat on the roadside or pavement, often near wooded or grassy land, with a fake baby in it. This is a growing method for luring motorists into a vulnerable situation where they can be attacked, beaten, robbed and in some cases, raped and left for dead. A local resident reported a sighting like this to Police only recently. Their advice was,
“DO NOT STOP FOR ANY REASON!”
