Berkswell 205 for 7 (4 points) lost to Old Edwardians 207 for 0 (20 points) by 10 wickets.

Berkswell found themselves on the wrong end of a 10 wicket drubbing this weekend as they entertained Old Edwardian’s.

Batting first in good conditions, Berkswell stars Dominic Ostler (65) and Nadeem Bhatti (35) built a solid foundation helping the team reach a position of strength of 112 for 2 at the halfway stage of the innings …

Unfortunately the expected push for quick runs failed to materialise with a flurry of wickets occurring instead. Eventually Mark Fraser (29) and Sultan Khan (30 not out) were brought together and they set about rebuilding and while they batted well the damage had already been done.

After the tea interval Old Edwardian’s set about Berkswell’s attack with devastating effect, openers Hughes (112 not out) and Clare (84 not out) securing an impressive win with 9 overs to spare.

Berkswell’s wicket keeper Matthew Saghabashi said,

“If we’d have scored another 50 runs it wouldn’t have been enough, the one opener (Hughes) was about the best batsman I’ve seen so far in this division. He batted superbly.”

Berkswell still find themselves in a position of strength in mid-table and fully expecting to bounce back quickly from this surprisingly one sided defeat.

“We had a slightly ‘off’ week but ultimately we simply came across a guy at the peak of his game, any team would have struggled against him in that kind of form.” said skipper Milnes.
