Goals for a good cause

Balsall Common based charity the Lily Mae Foundation have organised a football match against Solihull Moors FC.

The match kicks off at 2pm on Sunday 15 February.

The Lily Mae Foundation will field a team of ex professional footballers as well as other celebrities to play a Solihull Moors team X1.  Keep an eye on the Lily Mae Foundation’s Facebook page for the latest details.

As well as an exciting football match, there will be hospitality, a family fun day and post-match entertainment.

Tickets cost just £10 for adults and £5 or concessions, under 12s are free.

50% of all proceeds will go to the Lily Mae Foundation.

Berkswell Cricket Club set to launch women’s and girl’s teams

Berkswell Cricket Club is expanding to form Women’s and Girl’s teams for the 2015 season following the appointment of new Head of Women’s Cricket Sarah Ginn.

 

Berkswell’s Women’s section will play in the Midlands League, the biggest women’s league in the country, with a Premier Division that boasts many current England players. Berkswell will play ther first season in Division 3, with a total of 10 fixtures against teams from across the Midlands.

 

Berkswell’s Head of Women’s Cricket Sarah Ginn explains:

 

“It’s anticipated that our new Berkswell side will be a mix of experienced players, up and coming youngsters, and players new to the game. We are always looking for new members and welcome all standards to our training nights, which get underway on Thursday nights at Westwood School in Coventry from Thursday 5th February.”

 

Winter practice sessions at Westwood School will start at 6:30pm. Competitive fixtures will start at the end of April, along with outdoor net and fielding sessions. Plans are in place to field a further team in the Warwickshire 8-a-side T20 league, on Tuesday nights throughout the summer.

 

A brand new junior girls section, at Under 13 and Under 11 age groups initially, will start training after the Easter holidays, and hope to be involved in the Warwickshire softball festival leagues during the summer. Beginners and experienced players are invited to join.

Girls rugby comes to Berkswell and Balsall Common

Berkswell and Balsall Rugby FC are launching girls tag rugby for ages 8-17 with support from the RFU- the sport’s governing body. Head coach and father of three daughters Jim Minogue explains more:

In recent years, Rugby’s popularity has increased amongst girls and women, and England won the 2014 Women’s Rugby World Cup and on the back of this the RFU aims to boost the numbers playing to 100,000. Berkswell will train girls from local schools, play league games and host several festivals. The recent strategic £47K grant from the RFU to install new pitch drainage has given the club some of the best facilities in the area.”

The Mini & Junior section of BBRFC start their season this Sunday 10am at their ground on Honiley Road. Registration runs all month and boys and girls aged 5-16 are invited to come along to the club on Sunday throughout September to give it a try.
