The Balsall Common Lions have lined up a Take That tribute act to perform at their Balsall Common Jubilee Fete and Party in the Park on Tuesday 5th June 2012. The event which marks the official Jubilee of the Queen on the officially designated National Holiday, will be taking place at the Lant Sports and Community ground on Meeting House Lane in Balsall Commmon.
Lions President and event co-ordinator Marie-Louise Marsden said:
“We’re really excited to have secured our Take That slot for such a big occasion and really pleased how well plans for the event are progressing generally. It’s going to be great day out for all the family. We’ll be keeping people informed of developments through the Bugle and BalsallCom.Com”

The Brickmakers Arms has been quietly undergoing a transformation over the course of the last week and is set to open its’ doors officially with a new look from 7pm this evening. The ‘snug bar’ has remained open whilst the main bar and old pool-room have undergone an intensive refreshment process and landlady Victoria Hancox is looking forward to greeting folk with some hospitality to enjoy the new feel of the place,
“The refurb is nearly finished, we’re just putting on the finishing touches right now.” says Victoria, “We’ll be right and ready to greet folk with some ‘fizz and nibbles’ from 7 O’Clock this evening”

3rd generation butcher John Taylor, whose family butcher’s firm has shops in Earlsdon and Balsall Common, has announced that their Balsall Common shop will be open from 4am to noon tomorrow (Saturday 24th December) to allow residents to stock up on any last minute Christmas items. John Taylor recently won a lifetime achievement award at the Butcher’s Shop of the Year Awards, having started out at the age of 12 working on his father’s farm, before working as a slaughterman then butcher shop owner.

Balsall Common will be without a Post Office temporarily when Mills Newsagents is closed as part of a refurbishment and rebranding exercise by new owners One Stop this week. The Tesco owned convenience store chain will bring down the curtain on the Mills Newsagent brand with a phased closure, starting with the closure of the Post Office.

The Brickmakers Arms in Balsall Common has really got its’ summer season underway as they celebrate the success of a successful St John Ambulance fundraiser last Sunday (17th July). The Station Road pub continues its’ summer season with a lazy summer barbecue this Sunday (24th July) from 2pm until 6pm.
