The local community came together in unprecedented fashion on Saturday 20th September for the Balsall Common Festival, with approximately 4000 enjoying the party atmosphere across two sites during the day.
Residents took to the streets from around midday to witness around 475 runners, including former British Rugby Lion Tim Stimpson, participating in Balsall Common’s inaugural Fun Run. The crowds then flocked to The Lant for the fete, market and Party in the Park, complete with children’s activities and wide range of music and entertainment. The Balsall Common Lions have teamed up with the Berkswell and Balsall Common Sports Association, signifying the merger of the area’s two biggest bonfire and fireworks events. The experienced Lions team bring their event to the village centre facilities at The Lant for the first time ever on Saturday 8th November. Gates open at 6pm. Prices as listed on posters.
The Balsall Common Lions have put out the call to all men over 50 years of age to attend their now annual Prostate cancer screenings at St Peter’s Church Hall tomorrow (Saturday 4th October 2014) from 10:00am until 1:00pm.
If you know anyone who hasn’t been screened why not encourage them to take this valuable and potentially life-saving free health check.
Balsall Common fund raiser Stuart Kettell made headlines locally and nationally with his latest fundraising challenge for Macmillan Cancer Support. But his successful attempt to push a Brussels sprout up Mount Snowdon with his nose has achieved worldwide fame!
His efforts reached Australia’s Melbourne Age newspaper!
Balsall Common Lions Club is hosting An Evening of Motown Magic with Jackie Marie on Saturday 17 May 2014.
Jackie Marie is an experienced, versatile, soul and motown singer who performs emotive ballads and the classic motown sounds of Tammi Terrell, The Velvettes, Gladys Knight, Aretha Franklin, Diana Ross and The Supremes, and Martha Reeves and the Vandellas.
The event takes place at St Peter’s Church Hall and the ticket price of £12.50 includes a hot supper. There is a pay bar. We look forward to seeing you there. Please arrive from 7.30pm for an 8pm start.
