BalsallCom.Com’s Featured Businesses

BalsallCom.Com’s featured businesses section is dedicated to ‘Investors in Balsall’, socially conscious local businesses who invest heavily in the local community. These investments can be financial, logistical or intellectual, or some combination of all three.

Here we ask the fantastic community-minded team at John Shepherd Select & Select Lettings to take a bow:

John Shepherd Select & Select Lettings Balsall Common

John Shepherd Select and Select Lettings is the only truly independently owned estate agency with a physical presence in Balsall Common, providing a range of packaged services to home buyers, sellers, landlords and tenants. The team is rightly proud of their wide range of village partnerships and commitment to community causes.

Community contribution

Matt Corrall and Carl Stokes - Blues Brothers for the Day
Matt Corrall and Carl Stokes – Blues Brothers for the Day

In addition to providing very significant funding for major community events, the fun-loving team at John Shepherd Select & Select Lettings love to get physically involved in things too. Take the day when Matt Corral and owner Carl Stokes spent the day entertaining local Primary School pupils as the Blues Brothers in December 2012.

The team clearly possesses a keen sense of humour and a willingness to entertain, as evidenced by the day their day spent entertaining local school pupils with their raucous Blues Brothers Police Car.

“Actually we were wondering what to do when we found out Carstins had the car, so we asked if we could rent it for the day.” explained Branch Manager Matt Corrall.

“But they said: ‘No. You can’t rent it. But you can have it.”

“So that was that, in we got and off we went.”

Safe to say, with owner Carl Stokes as his partner in crime, there was heaps of fun to be had whilst they caused havoc ‘Policing’ the village.

2014 Balsall Common Festival

In keeping with their drive to support the community John Shepherd Select and Select Lettings have been the Main Sponsors for the Balsall Common Festival since 2012, in addition to providing major sponsorships over the years for local schools and other community projects.

Organisers planning to bring the Balsall Common community together for another big fete and Party in the Park in 2014 are seeking new blood to build on the success of September’s successful event at Meeting House Lane.

The 2013 event, which included over 50 stalls, plus entertainment and live music on a big outdoor stage, reported a surplus of nearly £2700 and has already distributed some £2250 to local causes, as Committee member Craig Burgess explains:
