Balsall Common Festival organisers are taking the event up another notch in 2015, with plans for a full weekend event in September with more entertainment, music and activities than ever before.
Whilst precise dates are yet to be confirmed – the third weekend in September has been pencilled in (Saturday 19th to Sunday 20th September 2015) – with plans afoot for a ‘Fun Run Sunday’ that allows all areas of the Festival to grow.
“This year’s ‘Big Idea’ is to turn our Festival into a “Holiday at Home” for families, by holding the event across an entire weekend, with the Fun Run moving to a Sunday.” says Festival Chairman Craig Burgess.
“Following last year’s success we’re looking to expand the Fun Run and ‘Balsall’s Got the Voice’ competitions, with the ‘Voice’ qualifiers commencing earlier, maybe as early as late March to mid-April.”
“Last year’s Festival attracted 4000 visitors across two sites, with nearly 500 Fun Runners for the senior runs, so the new plans allow more people to be involved with both parts of the event, and paves the way for further growth.”
All of which means recruiting more volunteers for 2015, as Craig explains:
Heavily discounted advanced tickets for this year’s Balsall Common Festival go on sale at local shops from tomorrow (Friday 1st August). Balsall Common Pharmacy and Angela Jaynes Florist have taken delivery of tickets for the event at The Lant on Saturday 20th September 2014.
The event carries a wide roster of family-friendly entertainments, with fete, market, arena acts, local music talent finals, a wide variety of live music including a visit from Andy Bennett of Ocean Colour Scene repute. The festival also incorporates Balsall Common’s inaugural Fun Run, co-ordinated by The Lily Mae Foundation.
The evening live music entertainment on the Main Stage, sponsored by Nailcote Hall will run from 6pm until the show ends at 9pm.

Preparations for Balsall Common’s first official Fun Run – which forms part of the Balsall Common Festival celebrations in September – are well underway and organisers are gearing up for official announcements to be made very soon.
The Fun Run will take place on Saturday 20th September, with a start/finish line at Heart of England School, and is currently set to allow runners 5k or 10k options.
Festival Chairman Craig Burgess explains:
“We’re delighted to have the support of Balsall Common based charity The Lily Mae Foundation, who are leading the effort to stage the run. The Fun Run for older participants gets underway at midday at the Heart of England School, while mini-Fun Runs for younger children will take place at our main Festival site at The Lant on Meeting House Lane from around 3pm.”
The Lily Mae Foundation have put in an enormous amount of work behind the scenes to mke our first ever Balsall Common Fun Run a reality and deserve an enormous amount of credit. As a team we’re all really excited about bringing something new to the village.”
Event organisers are keen to point out this year’s undertaking would be impossible without the advanced backing of community-minded business owners. Major backers for the Fun Run include Unity Coventry (formerly Carstins) and Main Fun Run sponsor Hollywood Monster.
“Thanks to the backing of these major sponsors and more, with more hopefully to come, we can plan to make this yea’rs bigger and better than ever before. We’re well on our way to achieving this already, but are still keen to find more help.”
Details of how to enter the Fun Run will be announced soon.
