Oakes Farm Shop are the latest local business to become Event Partners for the Balsall Common fete being held at Meeting House Lane on Saturday 28th September 2013. They were keen to support the community event which depends heavily on the financial backing of companies based in the area.
Gary Oakes told us:
“We’re delighted to support this fantastic event. We’ve been thrilled with the response of the local community since we opened the farm shop and cafe at the beginning of this year and its nice to be able to give something back. We’re also selling tickets for the event and will have a stall there on the day.”

Balsall Common fete planners received a fine boost yesterday as the Bengal Brasserie joined forces as event sponsors for what is expected to be big crowd puller on Saturday 28th September 2013. The restaurant on Kenilworth Road in Balsall Common already has a fine reputation for supporting local causes as well as contemporary Bangladeshi and Indian cuisine and friendly staff.
The Railway Inn next to Berkswell Station is opening its’ doors early again this Saturday morning (6th July 2013) for the Wallabies v Lions 3rd and final series-deciding Test match. The doors will be opened at 10:30am by the pub’s well-known Assistant Manager Naughty Trevor and the game will be shown on the ‘big-screen’ from 11:00am.
Breakfast will be served from 11am until 2pm and the landlords were over the moon once they knew local attraction and minor celebrity Naughty Trev was available to work the bar with his crowd-pleasing smiley-face routine.
“My smiley face will be serving you all day, just like last week only better.” said an unusually upbeat Naughty Trevor Rogers.
“Last time I ended up with full-on face-ache next day from all the customer-facing smiling I had to do, but I’m going into it better prepared this time. I’m gonna limber up properly beforehand with some proper face stretches. It’s amazing really but I didn’t realise until last Saturday how much effort goes into being cheerful for an entire day.”
Entry is free and there will be no supplimentary fees for any bonus-smiles dished out from behind the bar.
