It often surprises local residents to learn that Balsall Common based Berkswell Cricket Club is one of the most successful clubs in the West Midlands, with an elite 1st team that plays semi-professionally in the top division of the oldest club cricket league in the world.
The club has enjoyed a meteoric rise from the ranks of village cricket clubs to top regional cricketing centre, with a squad packed full of current and former Warwickshire professionals. The club is actively seeking mutually beneficial long-term partnerships with the area’s top businesses, such as existing partners Tyler Packaging, Lexus Coventry, Nailcote Hall and Ye Olde Saracens Head, to name a few.

Meeting House Lane-based Berkswell Cricket Club is now firmly established as one of the top cricket clubs in the West Midlands at both youth and senior levels following a number of years solid progression in the game. The club’s youth teams all finished first or second in their respective leagues in 2013, with two of them going on to win trophies in knockout competitions, including one memorable final for the Under 11s on a hot July evening at Edgbaston.
The cricket club is now opening its’ doors to new youngsters and is particularly keen to hear from players in the Under 11 to Under 16 age groups. Winter sessions get underway for these age groups this afternoon at Solihull College, and will run from 4pm to 6pm for 10 sessions until Saturday 29th March (with the end-date allowing for two weekends off on 15th and 22nd February).

The team at the Royal British Legion Club on Station Road opposite Berkswell railway station is on a mission to offer lots of family-friendly entertainment this year, kicking off with a family quiz night on 18th January 2014.
Family teams of four to six players are invited to join the fun and bring their own nibbles. There;s an entry fee of £2 for adults and children play for free. Doors open 7:30pm. Quiz starts 8pm. All welcome!

Sara Parkes is hoping our community can help her locate her dog, an English Working Cocker Spaniel who answers to the name of Fearne, missing from Spencers Lane in Berkswell since 2:30pm this afternoon (New Year’s Day).
