A demolition job on their travels to Worcestershire club Ombersley ensured 3rd placed Berkswell’s promotion challenge will go right down to the wire with their final game at Meeting House Lane next Saturday. Their 9 wicket victory ensured the Birmingham League Division 2 side remain just two points behind promotion rivals Old Elizabethans in 2nd place, and 18 adrift of top of the table Evesham, with a maximum of 24 available to each side from matches taking place next week.

Cricket: Bank Holiday triumphs blow promotion challenge wide open for Berkswell

Dominic Ostler’s brilliant Berkswell bagged maximum points from their Bank Holiday fixtures including a demolition job on 2nd placed Old Elizabethans on Monday to put the Meeting House Lane side right back in the promotion race, just two points adrift of 2nd place with two games remaining.

Berkswell T20 Challenge Cup Final squad

Second Division Berkswell produced two outstanding performances against Premier Division opposition to become Birmingham League Twenty 20 Challenge Cup Champions for the first time on a superb finals day at Cannock.  The Meeting House Lane club, enjoying easily the largest and most exuberant travelling support, produced excellent all-round displays in both matches, upstaging Walmley in the semi-final, then doing something of a demolition job on Staffordshire outfit Himley in the final.

Cricket: Milnes’ star turn not quite enough for Warwickshire 2nds

A superb five wicket haul by Berkswell’s Tom Milnes wasn’t quite enough to prevent defeat for Warwickshire’s second eleven  on Tuesday as they lost a close game by two wickets to Nottinghamshire at Berkswell’s Meeting House Lane Ground.  Warwickshire lost the toss and were invited to bat on a slow paced and lost early wickets to find themselves in trouble at 9-3, before fourth wicket pairing Richard Johnson (51) and Usman Shabir (59) began rebuilding the innings.
