The end of term this year will see one of the longest serving members of staff leave Balsall Common Primary School. With 30 years of service Sue has the longest service record since the 1950’s and is the second longest serving member of staff in the schools 102 year history.
Sue said there are so many happy memories over the years but the thing she will miss most are the children, over the years she has taught nearly 1,000 children.
She is now looking forward to spending more time with her family and finally finishing lots of the DIY jobs she has started!
Graeme Burgess, Headteacher at Balsall Common Primary School said, “What an incredible achievement, I am sure Sue will be missed by both the children and staff. We all wish her a very happy retirement.”
Balsall Parish Council have decided that the Jubilee Youth and Community Centre is unworthy of the annual £10K funding it has provided since the centre’s inception over a decade ago. The impact of this decision is that the centre will close and two part time youth workers will lose their jobs. Defenders of the centre, led by Mike Longfield, fear that this will weaken community cohesion and result in a worrying increase in vandalism and anti-social behaviour in Balsall Common, as bored youths will be driven out into the parks and onto our streets.

Children of 8 and 9 years from Balsall Common Primary School yesterday won the Aviva Tag Rugby Regional final at Worcester Warriors Sixways stadium. They secure a place in the Aviva Premiership Tag Final at Twickenham on the 31st May which takes place at half time during the Premiership Final in front of tens of thousands of spectators.

Several of the children are also members of Berskwell and Balsall Rugby Club, who are currently running a comprehensive programme to forge links with local schools. In April the school team won a festival at the Honiley Lane based club, competing against several local schools.
