I am also attempting to lose a few pounds (maybe that should read stone) but am allowing myself a small morsel or two occasionally. I have managed to go for 4 days without booze this week but then awoke with a killer headache on Thursday. I am assured by my well meaning friends that this is the "detox effect", but I managed to cure it with a can of strongbow
Am now into my once a week treat of crisps <crunch crunch>
Can only dream of a chippy now, as i have used all my treats up

I don't suppose it helps much when strangers give you chocolates, you'll have to keep your good deeds to a minimum eh Kim? ;)

Well...yes..but you see those sort of calories don't count as they were an unsolicited gift!
The fact that I am now trawling thru long grass at every opportunity seeking lost property is another matter entirely.
I am a firm believer in "never look a gift horse in the mouth", and if the gift horse happens to be chocolates, stuff them in YOUR mouth as quick as poss!!
Anyway, to return to the original subject, I had a not too bad fish n chips at the George in the Tree not so long ago... sorry to have to admit to visiting there though

Your logic is impressive yet flawed methinks. If there was a sudden and unexpected wave of kind souls thrusting free food into your mits, your motto of "just eat it" would soon have you looking like a beached whale.

Hmmm, George in the Tree. I used to like it there about 15 years ago, but I just can't make my mind up about the place these days. It was good fun there during the World Cup though. And their Christmas Eve bash last year was superb.

I have not yet ventured over the threshold....being of somewhat senior years (42!!) I'm not sure it caters for the likes of me!!
Maybe I will persuade a couple of female friends (of the slightly younger persuasion to go with me). I could go with my husband i spose but I don't like to go out with him where someone might know me

Still, life is good, i dont think she goes to Bingo now, it used to cost me a fortune  but the compensation was good............ the tv remote :)

Funny thing is now, i dont watch it much and life is so uncomplicated :)

ok..i am now going to attemp a chippy related question or 2.
Why are potato fritters called scallops round here?
And why can't you get batter bits any more?
And has anyone actually ever eaten a pickled egg??

8) DudesKimbo, :-) Pickled egg crushed up in a bag of cheese an onion crisps :) very tasty.

As for the scallops :? you must have come from up north were they stuff fish betwen 2 layers of spud and batter it  and call it a fish cake :?

Maybe DudeyB knows the answer to the scallop question, could it be a poor mans oyster of the midlands :?

May be a night out, of old days, were the male would take out the bird for half a bitter and a scallop on the way home, to set the mood

No I come from Nottingham where a fritter is the same as a scallop! A fish cake is MASHED potato and fish!
And your pickled egg thing sounds GROSS!!!!
(Mind you, this is from someone who used to roll up a processed cheese slice into a ball until it looked like playdoh, then squish it onto a cracker)
