Berkswell Cricket Club in Balsall Common

Berkswell Cricket Club welcomes new friends

Berkswell Cricket Club is one of the top clubs in the West Midlands, situated at the Lant Sports and Community Ground on Meeting House Lane in Balsall Common.

Berkswell offers competitive, enjoyable cricket at all levels from the age of 7, through to the semi-professional level, played on Saturdays but the 1st XI in the Premier Division of the Birmingham & District Premier League, Premier Division.

The 1st XI, led by Warwickshire batting legend Dominic Ostler, plays the highest level of cricket available outside the professional county circuit and contains a squad packed with current and ex-professional cricketers, including the recently retired ex-Warwickshire skipper and former England One Day International Darren Maddy.

The Berkswell Success Story

Berkswell won entry to Birmingham and District Premier League’s Premier Division for the first time after winning the Division 1 Championship in 2011 and finished in a creditable 4th position in their first season there in 2012.  The Premier Division sits at the top of a four division league, which in turn sits astride a further four county pyramid feeder system (Warwickshire, Worcestershire, Shropshire and Staffordshire).  The Birmingham League’s Premier Division is widely regarded the highest level of cricket attainable outside the county game and as a result regularly attracts famous overseas players from the Test Arena.  Famous names to have played in the Birmingham League include international stars such as Alan Donald, Shoaib Akhtar, Wasim Akram and Andrew Flower to name but a few.
