Sweet Memories open for business

Sweets from Sweet Memories
Sweets from Sweet Memories

We may be a bit behind the times but we’ve only just realised Sweet Memories is re-open for business behind Westwood Hair and Beauty.

As before, it sells all your traditional sweet shop favourites from chocolate limes and liquorice toffees, to ABC letters and strawberry sherbets. They also sell a wide range of ice creams and coffees and slushies. There is a small seating area outside. So if you are looking for a treat for yourself or the kids, are out and about in the village in need of caffeine or sugar, why not head in and see what they have to offer.

Keep on Running – Balsall Common style

Running is THE thing to do in Balsall Common this summer! Day and night there are always runners out and about in the village. Interest has been heightened by Balsall Common’s first ever Fun Run on 20 September. Coupled with a newly formed running club for the village, it’s a great time to pull on your trainers and get running.

Entering an event or joining a club are great ways to get started and stay motivated. Or if you are feeling really keen why not do both!

It’s not too late to enter the Lily Mae Foundation Fun Run, part of the Balsall Common Festival. Entries are just £13 for the 5k or 10k race. Kids aged 5-10 can enter mini Fun Runs that take place at the Lant on the Saturday afternoon. There will be no entries on the day so do sign up in advance. www.lilymaefoundation.org/funrun

If you want to train with others, the Balsall Common Running Club meets on Thursdays at 6.30pm and at 9am on Saturday mornings at The Lant (between tennis courts and cricket pitch), Meeting House Lane, Balsall Common. New Business Breakfast Club for Balsall Common

Balsall Common’s Business Breakfast Club met for the first time this week, Claire Turner reports on how it went:

The first meeting of the Balsall Common Business Breakfast Club was a great chance for local business owners and sole traders to meet up. Attendees shared information about their business, their local connections, and discussed the advantages and disadvantages of working for yourself. Hot local topics including flight paths and HS2 were also thoroughly dissected.

Guest speaker, Richard Hales, Chair of Kenilworth Chamber of Trade told the group about the Chamber, and the benefits of joining. They organise a few key events a year, as well as having an informal meeting on the third Tuesday of each month. They aim to allow local businesses to support each other. Membership is just £40 per year. They are happy to have Balsall Common businesses join, their website is http://kenilworthchamber.co.uk/ for more information.
We also found out more about the British Legion and what it can offer local businesses in terms of events, room hire, and functions. They do great breakfasts too!

The next meeting of the Balsall Common Business Breakfast Club will be on Friday 19 September at 7.30 at the British Legion on Station Road.  For more information please contact Jill Bowman or join our new LinkedIn Group
