Balsall Common’s CP’s Barbers on Kenilworth Road hosted BBC Radio WM’s Danny Kelly show on Thursday after pledging £5000 for the pleasure live on-air at the station’s Children in Need auction on 17th November 2016.
“We listen to the show every day, in the car and at the shop and we love the banter” explained Julie Porter, one-half of the husband and wife business owners who are both fans of Danny’s show.
“We were driving to work and we thought we’d phone in with a bid. For the first couple of hours nothing much happened, but then with the deadline approaching, TC Cars in Chelmsley Wood got involved and we ended up in a bidding war. Before we knew it my husband Steve was bidding £5000 live on-air in a head-to-head battle with John from TC Cars. With time about to run out John proposed we declare a draw so the BBC could give us both a live show each for £5000, so we could jointly raise £10000 for the cause.”
The legal team behind the scenes agreed to the deal, which resulted in a mid-morning show at CP’s Barbers this week on Thursday 8th December from 9am until noon. Owners Steve and Julie Porter set aside all fees for cuts and shaves during the three-hour show, in favour of voluntary donations which raised a further £410 for Children in Need, proof-of-payment for which we have already seen here at BalsallCom.Com.
Danny Kelly Show a Hit at CP Barbers
As far as the show itself was concerned there was lots of fun at the shop and plenty going on to keep people entertained. Danny Kelly received a wet shave from ‘Mia Senior’, before receiving a reverse-engineered hair-do for his bald head from ‘Mia Junior’, as she whipped up a dashing combover sensation with extra dangly bits.
We think it’s true to say we saw the future of gentleman’s hairdressing on Thursday, as our pictures surely prove.
CP’s Barbers in the Community
In addition to their Children in Need efforts, CP’s Barbers also have a track record for supporting local community projects. They were one of the headline sponsors for the 2015 Balsall Common Festival, where they topped up their £1200 contribution with a very sizeable donation the The Lily Mae Foundation, which was a combination of shop income on Party Saturday, as well as money raised for hair-colouring on Festival Day.
In recognition of this we’d love to see as many as people liking or sharing this news on Facebook by way of applause, so do please get liking and sharing!
