Lily Mae Foundation – Fun Run Sunday report

Fun Run Sunday was enjoyed by just over 600 runners, the majority have a CV7 postcode. The runners were watched by some 300 people at the start and finish line at Heart of England School and by an estimated 750 people around the Fun Run route.

The Lily Mae Foundation would like to thank all the runners who took part, the local businesses who provided sponsorship support, the Marshals who ensured a safe environment for the runners and spectators on the route, FastAid for their medical support, the 2nd Balsall Scouts for staffing one of the water stations, the staff, students and PTA at Heart of England School for their support in planning and organising the Run and for their help on the day and our team of volunteers who delivered road closure letters to homes on the Run route and helped on the day. You all made the Run the best and most successful yet, thank you once more.

Whilst the day was enjoyed by some 1600 residents of Balsall Common and was helped and supported by just over 100 more, it was a great pity that there were 11 incidents, that have been reported to the Police, of local motorists and motorcyclists (we have your registration numbers and photo evidence) who chose to ignore the road closure signs and the marshals, and drove at speed through the Fun Run route, endangering the safety of the runners, spectators, scouts and marshals alike. The abuse shouted by these motorists at the volunteer marshals, in the presence of children in their cars and those children and adults who were spectating and running was vile and hateful.

Here’s to next year’s Run and to a massive reduction in the abusive and dangerous incidents detailed above
