Meeting House Lane-based Berkswell Cricket Club is now firmly established as one of the top cricket clubs in the West Midlands at both youth and senior levels following a number of years solid progression in the game. The club’s youth teams all finished first or second in their respective leagues in 2013, with two of them going on to win trophies in knockout competitions, including one memorable final for the Under 11s on a hot July evening at Edgbaston.
The cricket club is now opening its’ doors to new youngsters and is particularly keen to hear from players in the Under 11 to Under 16 age groups. Winter sessions get underway for these age groups this afternoon at Solihull College, and will run from 4pm to 6pm for 10 sessions until Saturday 29th March (with the end-date allowing for two weekends off on 15th and 22nd February).
The younger ones, from age 7 through to the Under 10 age group get going tomorrow afternoon (Sunday 11th January 2014) at the Heart of England School from 6pm to 7:30pm.
Training sessions usually include access to at least one former professional cricketer. Ex-professionals on Berkswell’s training roster throughout 2014 (winter/summer) include Warwickshire batting legend Dominic Ostler, Jamie Spires and Nick James and the club hopes to provide access to additional professionals and ex-professionals during the season. In 2013 Berkswell’s youth cricketers got to meet Warwickshire captain Jim Troughton at their end-of-season Youth Presentation evening in September.
