Organisers planning to bring the Balsall Common community together for another big fete and Party in the Park in 2014 are seeking new blood to build on the success of September’s successful event at Meeting House Lane.

The 2013 event, which included over 50 stalls, plus entertainment and live music on a big outdoor stage, reported a surplus of nearly £2700 and has already distributed some £2250 to local causes, as Committee member Craig Burgess explains:

“We’re looking for new people to help us build on our success in 2013, which allowed four equal donations of £500 to the First Responders Fast Aid, the Air Cadets Squadron, Scouts and the Heart of England School, with a further £250 passed to the Lant Sports Association.”

“We couldn’t have achieved this without the hard work of many people from the community, a significant and committed contingent from the local Lions charity, plus local business owners who committed vital funding and logistical support to help us turn a surplus.”

“We had too many sponsors in 2013 to name in one go, but we must make special mention for John Shepherd Select and Select Lettings, Acorn Printing and Nailcote Hall, for their lead sponsorship roles, which included vital financial backing, plus logistical and event planning support.”

As eyes turn to planning for the next event there is a drive to recruit new faces to the planning team:

“We want to make the event bigger and the feedback we’ve had suggests we need to be widening the range of activities in 2014. To achieve this we’ll need more event co-ordinators so we’d love to hear from anyone who’d like to get involved.”

“We also need a broader backbone of skills, as the team looks to replace both Chairman and Treasurer, as they step back from these front-line roles after two years exceptionally hard graft. Our first meeting, which will include an election of key officers will take place this Wednesday 8th January at 7:30pm where we’ll be happy to see some new faces.”
