Berkswell Cricket Club get their Birmingham & District Premier Division league campaign underway at their Meeting House Lane ground at midday today against visitors Brockhampton from Herefordshire.
Berkswell go into the game with a number of players missing, but with a degree of confidence, having warmed up the previous weekend with cup victories over fellow Premier Division outfits West Bromwich in the Graham Williamson Trophy, then Walmley in the National Knockout.
The Birmingham & District League Premier Division represents the cream of cricket across numerous counties and represents the highest standard outside the county game. Berkswell Cricket Club is also home of former Warwickshire batting legend Dominic Ostler, alongside 20 year old Tom Milnes who has begun collecting occasional appearances in Warwickshire’s 1st XI, including their Championship winning match against Worcestershire last year and their rain-affected season-opener against Derbyshire at Edgbaston. Berkswell have also signed former England player Darren Maddy whom they hope will turn out for the odd fixture in 2013 whilst remaining contracted to Warwickshire.
Visitors are always welcome to come into the ground on Meeting House Lane to view the first XI in action. Today’s game gets underway at midday and the bar will be open shortly afterwards.
