It’s a big day for Berkswell & Balsall Rugby Football Club on Saturday 9th March as they put on lunch for family, friends, sponsors and members of the local community on a big-match and charity day at the club. The Bs 1st team will be playing a crunch fixture against Ludlow and there will be a Red Nose Day Charity radio station on site too, all of which is open to participation from interested members of the local community.
The pre-match lunch gets underway at 12:30 before Berkswell’s 1st XV take on fellow strugglers Ludlow in their ongoing battle to remain in the tough semi-professional Mids West One Division for another season. There will be plenty of time for lunchtime visitors to finish their food and enjoy the game which kicks of at 3pm.
Alongside all this there’s a 2nd XV fixture against Earlsdon being played at the same time and a Red Nose Day Radio Show being broadcast live at the club by 14 year old Heart of England pupil Liam Sawyer, who is the leading light behind the Berkswell Windmill Radio Station. Liam aims to be broadcsting and selling goodies simultaneously from the clubhouse kitchen and picks up the explanation from there:
“I will be down Berkswell & Balsall Rugby Club from about 12:30 to get the radio set up and the plan is to do interviews with people around the club: members, players, bar, catering staff and spectators.”
Berkswell play a particularly high standard of semi-professional rugby and welcome new visitors at any time. Anyone interested in attending the catered lunch, including first-time visitors, is invited to contact Lesley Fahy. Lunch-time tickets are £10 a head. Interested parties should email Lesley in the first instance at firstname.lastname@example.org stating ‘BBRFC Lunch’ in the subject header.
