Aspiring young Berkswell cricketers to work with top professionals

Complete Cricket's latest Winter Academy featuring Dominic Ostler, Warwickshire skipper Jim Troughton and some of Berkswell's youth stars

Youngsters in Balsall Common and surrounding areas can expect the opportunity to learn their cricket from current and former professionals from the new year, thanks to the announcement of a new partnership between Berkswell Cricket Club and cricket consultancy Complete Cricket.

The accomplished Complete Cricket outfit – which boasts a highly qualified team of coaches including current Warwickshire Captain Jim Troughton plus Warwickshire legend and current Berkswell Club Captain Dominic Ostler – will take on Berkswell’s winter youth coaching and provide summer coaching from grassroots Under 9 level right through to the intermediate Under 17 age group.

Berkswell’s Youth Cricket Chairman Richard Blundell revealed his delight at the new venture:

“This initiative allows us to offer our kids regular access to the best coaching available, including current and former professional cricketers, plenty of enjoyment learning their skills, plus for the most gifted players, a clear development path towards representative honours at district level and county cricket beyond.”

The deal also paves the way for Berkswell Cricket Club and Complete Cricket to work together with local schools in future to provide greater sporting opportunities and the highest quality training from a very young age, an aspiration shared by Complete Cricket Directors David Smith and Jamie Spires.

“We’re thoroughly delighted that Rich Blundell has invited us to be involved with the Junior Section at Berkswell Cricket Club” enthused Jamie. “After several meetings it’s clear he has big aspirations for the club and we’re excited to have been asked to be part of these plans. We’ve already seen a number of the Berkswell Juniors in action through our coaching programmes and its clear there’s a great nucleus of talent to work with. We will be looking to challenge and develop these young cricketers into becoming the stars of the future.”

Berkswell’s Youth Committee is currently developing a range of membership packages to cater across the board for youngsters with different needs. These will include options for kids who just want to play for fun, through to those with aspirations of following in the footsteps of Berkswell skipper Dominic Ostler, a member of Warwickshire’s historic 1994 treble-winning side, plus Berkswell’s home-grown fast bowler Tom Milnes whom has just signed a new 3 year playing contract with current County Champions Warwickshire.

It all adds up to being a fantastic development opportunity for the youngsters of Berkswell and Balsall Common, as Richard Blundell emphasises:

“We’re really excited about our new deal with Complete Cricket and the range of opportunities this will allow us to develop for kids. As a result we’re now going to be able to offer a wider range of opportunities for kids to learn, grow and have fun.”
