Some rare sunshine for Berkswell & Balsall Tennis Club’s 2012 Finals Day

Regular women's finalist Sue Walsh with 13 year old winner Jessica Crawley

Berkswell and Balsall Common Tennis Club held its annual club tournament Final’s Day on Sunday 9th September 2012, with action throughout the day as members battled it out for the Club Championships.

This year’s star performer was Jessica Crawley who, aged just 13, defeated first team player and regular finalist Sue Walsh. Jessica showed determination and enthusiasm as she held her nerve to win 7 – 5, 6 – 4.

Sue – who got through to three finals – was still a double-title winner on the day, partnering Dottie Parkes to win the ’90+’ category (where the combined ages of the players must be 90 years or over) 6 – 4, 6 – 2; before pairing up with Lucie Ray to take the Ladies Doubles by default due to an opponent injury.

The men’s singles final was a close affair between brothers Jack and Harry Malone, with eldest brother Jack coming out on top in a three-set thriller 6 – 3, 4 – 6, 6 – 1.
