Inspirational Heart of England pupil picks up Olympic Torch

Chanel Carter, the inspirational 16 year old from Canley who attends Balsall Common’s Heart of England School, is the youngest of 23 torch bearers as the Olympic flame passes through Coventry tomorrow (Sunday 1st July). The opportunity is one of a number of accolades, honours and awards the teenager has won, since becoming an inspirational figure at her school for the way she has embraced life and sought out new challenges since having her foot and lower leg amputated after a battle against an excruciatingly painful returning tumour at the tender age of 14.

In what will be a busy week for Chanel – who also possesses a Diana Award for contributions to the community and picked up one of 11 ‘Best Bravest Women of 2011’ Awards – will be carrying the torch from the Kenpas Highway to Memorial Park in Coventry, before attending her end-of-year School Prom on July 2nd.

Go girl!
