It is with deep regret that we report the passing of a great servant of the community in the early hours of Sunday morning. Ian Huckerby was well known to many people in the village for his 24 years of unstinting service as Youth Manager at Berkswell Cricket Club. He was deeply admired and respected by many children, parents and players at the club and on a wider level through his sterling work with youth players at Warwickshire County Cricket Club. To many cricketers, Ian’s contribution to their lives went way beyond cricket itself and his loss has been deeply felt. BalsallCom.Com will be publishing an in depth tribute in due course and residents are invited to contribute their reflections.
In the meantime we are able to report Ian’s funeral will take place at Oakley Wood Crematorium next Friday, 3rd February 2012.
The service will commence at 1.30pm, after which everybody is invited to join the family to celebrate Ian’s life over a cricket tea at the home of Berkswell CC (The Lant Community & Sports Centre) on Meeting House Lane, Balsall Common.
Everybody is welcome to attend and the message from the family is very much a case of, “the more the merrier”. With this in mind the family would be extremely grateful for everybody to share this message as widely as possible in the hope we can get as many people together in celebration of this great man’s life next Friday.
The family has indicated a preference for donations, rather than flowers for the occasion. Proceeds will be donated to Berkswell Cricket Club for the express purpose of funding Youth cricket at the club, but should be payable in the first instance to Deeley’s funeral service (the name on the cheque should read, ‘J Deeley & Sons’) who will then pass all proceeds to the club.
The preferred method of payment if for cheques to be made out payable to : J Deeley & Son
For those unable to attend on the day these can be forwarded to J Deeley & Son at 322-324, Kenilworth Rd, Balsall Common, Coventry, West Midlands CV7 7ER (Tel: 01676 534237)
