Rugby: Berkswell continue fine run

Steve Wake reports on Berkswell’s Midlands West Division 2 (South) encounter at home on Saturday 10th December 2011:

Berkswell & Balsall – 23 Newbold – 3

The main difference between these two committed sides was that Berkswell’s defence withheld the visitor’s pressure, with some sterling defensive work, while taking their own chances at key points in the game. An early home try was all that divided the teams at halftime, before B’s extended their lead after the break, and finally sealed victory with two tries in the final minutes. Flanker Carl Parker bagged both of the late tries, to cap an outstanding performance, in which his enthusiastic tackling broke up numerous Newbold moves.

Travellers protest meeting tonight in Berkswell

Residents of Berkswell and Balsall have been given an open invitation to attend this evening’s meeting about the potential travellers site at Old Waste Lane. The meeting takes place at the Berkswell Reading Rooms on Meriden Road, starting at 8pm.

Villagers have established an action group to fight any moves to create a permanent site on green belt land.

Balsall Common Village Residents Association announce 2012 dates

The Balsall Common Village Residents Association have announced their 2012 Meeting Dates. All village residents qualify for membership automatically and are welcome to attend. Meetings usually take place on the first Tuesday of each month in the Committee Room to the rear of the Village Hall on Station Road. The final meeting in 2011 takes place tomorrow (Tuesday 6th December at 7.30pm), in the usual place.
