Cycling: Clinton racks up impressive wins in build up to National Champs
With the National Championships fast approaching, Balsall Common’s former National Hill Climb Champion, Matt Clinton, ramped up preparations riding for Mike Vaughan Cycles in three events across Yorkshire and Derbyshire last weekend.
Saturday morning kicked off with damp, drizzling conditions on the 1.3mile, 10% average ascent of Holme Moss hosted by Holme Valley Wheelers on a climb which often has to be cut short due to visibility issues caused by low cloud. Luckily this event was unaffected allowing the full course to be used, with Matt clocking the fastest time of the day, 6 min 46s, some 25s ahead of Welshman Dan Evans in second place.

Balsall Common Primary School Appeal
It’s hard to believe that Balsall Common primary school is 98 years young isn’t it? We’ve been contacted by the parent-teachers association (a registered charity) to appeal to local businesses and individuals who would like to take out an advert in this years Christmas Brochure. The brochure is delivered to 3500 homes locally and we can best describe it as “look local on steroids”.
The adverts cost between £20 and £60 and the money raised will go towards improving the lives of the next generation of BC’ers… but don’t delay as the deadline is 21st October for early November delivery.

Celebrities join forces with Dorridge Music School for Symphony Hall performance
Dorridge Music School has entered into the final throes of preparations for their 4th annual concert spectacular at the iconic Symphony Hall in Birmingham on 16th October, with a 300-strong collective, supplemented by an array of guest talent from around the West Midlands, including well known rock veteran Bev Bevan and members of UB40, such as Brian Travers.

Steve Wake report on Berkswell’s Midland West Division 2 (South) encounter on Saturday 8th October on the road at Banbury:
Banbury (14) lost to Berkswell & Balsall (20)
Berkswell got back to winning ways with an impressive victory in Oxfordshire over Banbury. Outscoring their hosts by three tries to one, B’s showed plenty of adventure with an outstanding display, in defence and attack, from their Centres Coombes and McNidder plus James Fahy who grabbed a try, penalty and conversion.
