Balsall Common Police Shop to move out of town?

Balsall Common’s Police Shop in the main shopping area on Station Road may be put up for relocation as West Midlands Police Authority consider cost cutting options to meet their ever decreasing operating budget.

The spending review could see the shop uprooted and relocated to the Police occupied premises on Holly Lane, removing a central presence and putting a question mark over what to do with Parish Council funded CCTV equipment on the premises which has been instrumental in solving crimes in the village.

This victory, the Bs 4th in 5 games, finally saw them move into credit in the league (3 points), having kicked off with a 15 point deduction, a penalty for behaviour in last season’s home fixture against Old Coventrians (26th March 2011), which the referee abandoned due to a mass brawl:

Berkswell & Balsall – 27 Pershore – 5

After a close first half, Berkswell powered to victory and additional bonus point after the break. Having been locked at 5-5 for most of the second quarter, the B’s began to break the stranglehold with a converted try just on halftime.

Obituary: Jake Connors

Jake Connors rest in peace

Local lad and popular figure Jake Connors

Tragically, with so much life left to live, well known local lad and popular figure Jake Connors passed from this world on Saturday 8th October 2011 in a motoring accident, only 23 years young.

Jake leaves behind a long list of family and friends with the unenviable challenge of coming to terms with such a tragic loss together, as they reconcile a history of fond and happy memories with deep sense of grief, shock and unexpected loss.

A telling indication of the regard in which Jake was held, as if any were needed, was the huge turnout for his funeral and wake last Wednesday (19th October 2011), as well as long list of folk queuing up to pay their tributes at his remarkable and moving Facebook remembrance page, which has gathered the names of well over 600 mourners and well wishers:

Our deepest condolences to all who knew and loved this much loved guy. Jake Connors, rest in peace.
