Burglars in standoff with police

Three burglars are now in the cells for raiding a house in Balsall Common this afternoon at about 3.30pm.

You may have noticed road blocks and a police helicopter in the vicinity of Alder lane this evening.

The criminals were caught red handed and a standoff ensued until the final offender was talked down from the roof of a property at about 7.15pm.

Thanks to residents on Twitter for helping us to piece together the event and to West Midlands Solihull police.. we salute you !

More details have been released by the police. The 3 miscreants arrested are all from Sheldon in Birmingham. Berkswell cricketers sink Attock to claim Division One Championship

Trevor Jordan reports on Berkswell’s final Birmingham & District Premier League Division 1 encounter of the season at Meeting House Lane, Balsall Common on Saturday (17th September 2011):

Berkswell celebrate as they join Birmingham League elite

Berkswell Cricket Club made a small piece of history on Saturday as they climbed into the Birmingham & District Premier League’s Premier Division for the first time by claiming the Division One title on Saturday.

And the scale of this achievement should not be understated. The Birmingham League is the oldest cricket league in the world and is held in the highest of esteem across the UK and beyond, attracting quality cricketers from home and abroad. The League – which has attracted a raft of Test cricketers in recent years including stars such as Alan Donald, Wasim Akram, Andy Flower and Shoaib Akhtar – is an elite 4 division structure perched above a pyramid of feeder leagues (Warwickshire, Worcestershire, Shropshire and Staffordshire).

Clinton claims 6th at British Time Trial Championships

Balsall Common’s Matt Clinton had another impressive outing recently in claiming 6th place at the annual British Time Trial Championships, improving on his 9th placed finish in 2010.

A strong field assembled to tackle an extremely wet course traversing the border between Northamptonshire and Cambridgeshire, with Mike Vaughan Cycles rider Matt Clinton aiming for an improvement on his 9th placed finish at the 2010 event in South Wales.
