Partial restoration of Meriden bus link to Berkswell and Balsall Common

A long year of campaigning and negotiations by people from the villages of Meriden, Berkswell and Balsall Common has finally resulted in the partial restoration of a bus link between the three settlements and beyond into Solihull. One year on from the axing of a service that was a lifeblood service for some residents, Centro have made released a vehicle from their ring and ride Taxibus service to operate a permanent fixed route service, to operate on Tuesdays and Thursdays. The number 83 bus will start from Meriden, run through Berkswell, then parts of Balsall Common before heading into Solihull town centre via Catherine de Barnes.

Numerous determined groups and individuals including various Parish Councils and residents groups campaigned hard, winning support from Solihull Councillors and MP Caroline Spelman to lobby Centro and bus operators. After detailed studies and consultations Centro responded by releasing one of their ring and Taxibus fleet to be deployed to run a trial service (number 83), which will come up for review in December.

The bus will serve all recognised stops along the route and operate on a hail and ride basis where no fixed stops are in place. Berkswell Parish Council have details of the new 83 bus route and timetable on their website:

This timetable has been designed with the demand responsive Taxibus service in mind, with the number 83 assigned to run at times which should minimise the impact on the existing Taxibus service.
