Balsall Common endurance champion claims 4 world records

Balsall Common resident Paddy Doyle’s continued pursuit of Paul Woodlands calendar year record of 29 speed, fitness, strength and stamina endurance world records gathered momentum last night (28th March 2011) with a flurry of 4 new world records at Staminas Gym in Erdington, Birmingham.  Iron Man Doyle brought his calendar year tally to 26 world records, leaving himself needing 4 more records between now and 31st July 2011 to claim the 30 he needs to set a new Ultimate World Record Title (UWRT) – a feat which barring mishaps – now looks eminently achievable.

Riddings Hill: Affordable homes proposed

Riddings Hill is emerging as the favourite site for at least 40 affordable houses in Balsall Common as part of the current proposals for Solihull council’s “Emerging Core Strategy” (ECS) which outlines the strategy for development in the next 5-10 years and is due to be ratified by the council this year. Balsall Common Library: Are you interested in encouraging children to read?

Amanda Jones at Balsall Common library is looking for Volunteers in encouraging children to read with the Libraries’ Summer Reading Challenge this year.

Amanda says: “It’s a good way to gain experience working with children and help with future training or job opportunities.”

A CRB check will be carried out on all volunteers. The closing date for applications is Friday 20th May 2011

Hockey: “Defensive Hero” lives up to his name and helps BBCHC’s Mens 1st keep a clean sheet

Doug Macklam reports on last weekend’s matches. Tomorrow, the Mens 2nd XI are home to Bloxwich (12.30 pushback) and the Ladies are home to Warwick (15.30 pushback). The Ladies match is a promotion decider against the league leaders. Games are played at the the Westwood Astros, University of Warwick.
