Rhythm Time Balsall Common owner Alison Lowe said: “It gives me a great sense of pride knowing that Balsall Common was where the very first Rhythm Time classes started and that 15 years on we continue to have classes here. I was delighted to share the celebrations with children and parents alike.” Says Alison: “Both my sons came to Rhythm Time and loved the classes. My eldest son was in the first ever Rhythm Time Baby class with Kathy and now plays the saxophone. When the children went to school I became an Assistant in the classes and then went on to become a teacher. Three years ago I was given the opportunity to manage a Rhythm Time franchise which includes the Balsall Common area. I haven’t looked back – I love every minute of the job.”
This Autumn Balsall Common Rhythm time will be expanding its classes to a Monday morning with classes for babies age 0-14 months and toddlers age 14 months-3yrs.
Rhythm Time’s owner and founder Kathy Doolan is a qualified music teacher and after having children wanted to combine a love of music and children with a business fitting around her young family. She created music courses that were both fun and musically and educationally sound. With a box of instruments she embarked on her new venture with the very first class in Balsall Common in 1995.
The response to the classes was fantastic and soon expanded into the Solihull area.
Local pre-school music group Rhythm Time celebrated its 15th birthday in May with a fun packed week full of exciting songs and activities for babies, toddlers and pre-school children. To mark the special occasion all classes during the birthday week had a party atmosphere with songs for the children to sing, dance and play along to with puppets and percussion instruments. Children were given cakes and balloons to take away – and additional cakes were sold in aid of the Birmingham Children’s Hospital Children’s Heart Appeal and raised £36.
Rhythm Time is a set of unique music courses specially written for different age groups. Each course helps with development and learning, starting with stimulating baby classes leading on to exciting toddler and pre-school classes. The core value has always been and remains to be, to deliver high quality music classes. Unaccompanied singing remains a key element in all the classes, as using backing tracks actually gets in the way of children learning effectively; the courses are a great preparation towards playing a musical instrument.
The business has expanded further over the last 15 years and Rhythm Time also teaches in nurseries and children’s centres, offers classes in the school holidays and caters for birthday parties too.
