Meriden, which is fast putting down roots as a street protestor’s centre of excellence, played host to a colourful environmental street demonstration on Monday. Residents who are becoming accustomed to the sight of people parading banners and signs down their street thanks to the ongoing bus service and green belt development disputes, enjoyed more of the same this week, this time with the added bonus of a highly talented leaflet wielding house sparrow.
Protestors deliberately targetting the constituency of Environment Secreatary Caroline Spelman were attempting to raise awareness of the dangers of potential cuts in funding for the Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs ahead of the Government’s Comprehensive Spending Review.
