Paddy Doyle to take on 30 mile Grand Union speed march

Balsall Common’s former paratrooper and Guinness World Records Fitness Endurance Champion Paddy Doyle is aiming to set a new benchmark for a 30 mile speed march along the Grand Union Canal carrying a 60 lb back pack.

Endurance champion Doyle has been training hard for this world record charity fundraiser, which forms part of a Help for Heroes fundraising weekend being run by the Journeys End pub in Yardley.

Paddy’s epic challenge will commence at 6am taking him through laces such as Rowington and Knowle locks on his way to the finish point at the Journeys End Public House on Clay Lane in Yardley. All walkers are welcome to walk the last 8 miles with Paddy, who hopes to raise plenty of money to such a fantastic cause. Paddy would appreciate support along the way and says people are welcome to join in and walk parts of the route with him. Anybody interested in more information about the challenge can contact Paddy via his website at
To date Paddy has achieved a career total of 180 strength speed stamina records, in which he holds 80 of those titles. He is also the only British endurance athlete to have had 51 entrys in the 1990 – 2010 Guinness Book of World Records and 45 entries in the USA World Strength Speed Record Book, editor {Dale Harder}.
