Balsall Common poultry producer scoops top food award



Adlington Ltd of Hob Lane, Balsall Common scooped the top award for its’ smoked turkey at the prestigious 2010 HEART of ENGLAND fine foods (HEFF) Diamond Awards covering Shropshire, Herefordshire, Warwickshire, Worcestershire, Staffordshire, Birmingham and The Black Country.



Local producer Rod Adlington’s smoked turkey won the Poultry & Game category to qualify to compete against winners of eight other product categories for the overall Special Diamond Taste Award, where judges hailed Adlington’s Smoked Turkey the tastiest product in the West Midlands.


One of the judges described the product as ‘tender and succulent with an excellent mouth feel, the smokiness was just right, not overpowering or harsh – perfection on a plate.’


Adlington also had two other products shortlisted in the Poultry & Game category; its Duck Three Bird Roast and its Turkey Sausage with lemon, pepper and garlic.


Owner Rod Adlington said,

“We are totally delighted to have won the overall award for Taste. It is a fantastic reward for the efforts of my very loyal team, and we are all very excited, especially taking into account some of the wonderful comments made by the judges.”


Rod has enjoyed a successful relationship with John Taylors butchers on Station Road, Balsall Common, having worked together for over 20 years supplying poultry, Christmas turkey and three bird roasts. Rod’s cooked turkey can also be found in the village at La Delicia, also on Station Road.
