Match report for fixtures played on 19/11/05 by Berkswell & Balsall Common Hockey Club

BBCHC Mens 1st XI 4 v Barlaston 2

Berkswell continued their fine form capitalising on last weeks 4-0 away win to take a valuable victory against one of the sides relegated from the division above.

An even first half saw both teams battling hard for possession and little was given away at either end. With both teams looking for a vital win in the run up to Christmas it was always going to be a finely contested game.

The 0-0 score line at half spurred Barlaston into action in the second. In a period of extended concentration lapse Berkswell allowed Barlaston to take a 1-0 lead minutes into the second half.

Showing renewed vigour and strength Berkswell quickly drew level through a penalty corner conversion from James Bonnel, before taking the lead shortly after with another penalty corner from James Bonnel. The second had the keeper sent to the floor and was neatly scooped over the keeper to give Berkswell a 1 goal lead.

Berkswell began to find their rhythm settling into their familiar passing game and dominating much of the play. This dominance eventually produced a third goal courtesy of leading scorer Rob Whisson.

Unfortunately marking lapses in defence allowed Barlaston back into the game at 3-2. Berkswell refused to settle with playing out time instead pushing forward. Their boldness paid off with a fourth goal by Martin Stevens converting a shot from Doug Macklam that deflected back off the goal post.

Berkswell ran out deserved 4-2 victors.
