As the end of the season grows closer Berkswell continue their rich vein of form despite a weakened team relying on two 2nd team players to make the full 11. Solid defensive work, creative play through the midfield and good hard work helped Berkswell to this victory lifting them to the heady heights of 8th in the Coaching Solutions West Midlands II League.

19/02/05 – ‘Co-op’erative Stores? Village Stores Update

Some of you may have noticed criticism of the Co-op in our forums, or a potshot or two aimed at the friendly management at the newsagents.

Well, thanks to this contribution from Anne Santos, you will pleased to learn the Balsall Common Village Residents Association have been campaiging on behalf of everybody who uses these stores.

15/02/05 – Balsall Common Village Residents Association

The Balsall Common Residents Association meet once a month to review local issues and forge plans for the benefit of the community.

Issues covered by this group in recent months include:

Birmingham International Airport expansion plans; anti-social behaviour; speeding; parking; litter; Mills newsagents; the Co-op; The ‘Village Plan’ project and many more.

All residents are welcome to attend these monthly meetings. The next meeting will be held in the Committee Room at the rear of the Village Hall on 1st March 2005 at 7.30pm.

15/02/05 – Hockey – Men Draw, Ladies Lose

Doug Macklam, Berkswell & Balsall Hockey club captain reports on matches played 12/03/05:

Mens 1st Team
Kynoch 3
Berkswell & Balsall Common 3

In a continuing late ascent of the league table, Berkswell came away with a well deserved point and were unlucky not to get the full three. Despite going down to an early Kynoch goal from some somewhat dubious marking in defence Berkswell continued to push the home team, pinning them in thier own half. The pressure saw two goals come
before the half time break from Darren Kirby and Martin Stevens.
