MYSTERY, INTRIGUE, ADVENTURE, ROMANCE AND GREAT, GREAT MUSIC – THIS SHOW HAS IT ALL!

SOLIHULL ARTS COMPLEX MONDAY 13th MARCH TO 18th MARCH 2005

The cast and backstage boasts a strong Balsall Common presence and among the stars is former Heart of England pupil Ian Page.

Knowle Operatic Society (KOS) has been producing and staging musical theatre in and around Knowle & Solihull since 1962.

The Scarlet Pimpernel will be the Society’s 70th major show.

This fantastic new production will literally be a first for Solihull as they stage the Premiere of ?The Scarlet Pimpernel? at the Library Theatre in March.

During this last 43 years there have been many memorable and well-received productions, but this will be the biggest, the most spectacular and certainly the costliest ever performed by KOS in all those years! The production, Directed by the locally well-known, Andrew Wilson-Jenner with Musical Direction under the control of Andrew Johnson, will not only have energetic movement, lots of comedy and great, great music, but will also feature as a centre piece of the stage set, a massive (and fully working) guillotine, together with exciting and fully choreographed sword fights!

‘The Scarlet Pimpernel’ means different things to different people. To some, he is the dashing centrepiece to a smash-hit Broadway show. To other, more scholarly types, he is one of the major romantic characters in the last century of English literature, the unlikely action man who became the prototype for a succession of “super-heroes” in popular culture. To movie buffs, he is a Hollywood icon, a swashbuckling, yet debonair man of high principle and drop-dead gorgeous fashion sense. To television fans, he is evoked by the 1990s British TV incarnation, courtesy of Robert E. Grant. Whichever Pimpernel means the most to you; this super show is definitely going to create many more fans.

With interest in all things French stimulated by the success of the long-running musical smash Les Miserables; it was perhaps just a matter of time before The ‘Scarlet Pimpernel’ became the stuff of Broadway legend too. Now you have the chance to see this wonderful production at the Library Theatre in Solihull.
