07/12/04 – Hockey – Men hold their own against mighty Pershore

Big thanks to Doug Macklam for sending us this week’s weekend match reports. It’s good to see the 1st team beginning to show their true capabilities:

4th December 2004
Match reports for Berkswell & Balsall Common Hockey Club

Mens 1st Team
Pershore 3 Berkswell & Balsall Common 3

Continuing a strong half season finish Berkswell drew away from home at high fliers Pershore. In a tough fixture Berkswell came flying out of the blocks after an initial torrid first five minutes.

Once settled, accurate, hard passing ripped apart a fairly sluggish Pershore midfield leading to a plethora of opportunities for Berkswell in the opposition 25. The first breakthrough was made from interlinking play from defence through the midfield and competently finished by Martin Stevens.

Going into the break Darren Kirby made it 2-0 from a clever cross goal face pass from James Hornby. Going into the second half Berkswell managed to let the control of the game slip as Pershore bagged one goal before Dave Haggart slotted a third home completely fooling the Pershore goal keeper. The concentration then slipped again and through some sloppy defence, Pershore were able to grab a point through two penalty corner goals in the last 15 minutes leaving the scores level at 3-3

Mens 2nd Team
Berkswell & Balsall Common 3 Yardley 0

Another strong performance saw the Berkswell men stride to yet another victory. Confident performances throughout the field of play saw Oli Talbot bag one goal and Adrian Baker catch another 2. While during the first half, Berkswell were seen tear through Yardley a much stronger Yardley resolved to fight during the second half.

The clean sheet was preserved well through some strong defence especially from Trevor Nunn and a covering Chris Gallen.
