NigelD writes “Staff and students at Heart of England school in Balsall Common are celebrating a ‘best ever’ results double.
Hot on the heels on last week’s A-level results, when 54 per cent of all grades achieved were A or B, they were yesterday again in party mood…this time celebrating best-ever GCSEs.The percentage of students gaining five A*-C grades went up almost 14 per cent.
Headteacher Annette Croft said: “We always felt that last year’s results were aberrant, but we have exceeded our own expectations at 78.3 per cent.
“The school’s own ambitious target for this year’s five A*-C grades was 72 per cent, so the achievement is outstanding.”
Mrs Croft attributed the success to several strategies but, in particular, to “the excellent teaching and sheer hard work of staff and a very positive group of students who have risen to the challenge.”
Several students gained straight A grades and Naomi Dyer, of Balsall Common, gained 11 A* GCSEs, including maximum marks on her science units.
