darkness writes “On the 11th june the Berkswell U15’s took on North Warwicks U15’s in a closely contended game away in Kenilworth.
North Warwicks won the toss and decided to bat. The game started quickly with both openers cutting loose against some good bowling by the skipper and star man Josh Audi and the up and coming star Tom Milnes. The overs were going quickly and soon North Warwicks were 36-0 of 6 overs. The breakthrough came when young Tom Milnes bowled an absolutely unplayable ball and took out their no1’s off stump.
when their number 3 came in we thought that we were going to roll them over because he was trying so hard to give Berkswell a wicket, but after a couple of overs he also began to cut loose. During constant cheering coming from the home fans both batsmen tore through the Berkswell bowling attack including Josh, Tom, Alex, Chris W and The Terror. Finally with an over to spare Josh Audi bowled their other opener for a very respectable 61. Then next ball the no3 was caught by The Terror at mid-wicket off the bowling of Chris Whitely for 50. The last over went for 3 runs and North Warwicks finished on 155-3.
At well over 7 an over Berkswell knew this was going to be a tough job, escpecially with only ten men. star man Josh Audi accompanied The Terror out to open the batting for Berkswell. The innings started quickly with Audi splaying the ball to all parts of the ground and after 3 overs Berkswell were 29-0. In the 4th over however Audi went for the big one and was caught on the boundary at deep mid-wicket.
This brought in Wicketkeeper O’neill to the crease. O’neill then decided to give all the strike to The Terror and this was working very well and after 7 overs Berkswell were 70-1. The Terror was working the ball over all the boundaries and was going very well until North Warwicks brought on their leg spinner, The Terror then creamed a drive straight to cover where the fielder took a very good catch to dispose of him for a very respectable 41.
The score was 85-2 when North Warwicks started to hit back taking wickets consistenly when in quick succession O’neill, Mcmahon, Alex and Taggers all fell leaving Berkswell reeling at 116-6 still needing 40 off the remaining 6 overs, out went young Milnes and John Nightingale to try and get the runs but sadly Milnes was out to the leg spinner for 1.
More wickets fell untill only Nightingale and Chris Whitley were left at the crease to try and get the remaining runs, but sadly as Nightingale was trying to push on the scoring he was caught on the boundary for 11. Berkswell were all out for 124 with 4 overs to spare.
After the game Coach Danny was pleased with the team saying he was “proud for the team because they scored the highest total in a long while and gave the opposition a very tough game.”
Berswell U15’s next game is on monday away to Kenilworth Wardens.”
