Berkswell’s imperious squads returned to winning the ways with both Saturday and Sunday 1st teams securing emphatic victories.
In the Warwickshire Premiership the Saturday 1st XI sealed an impressive win when they visited Birmingham based Old Edwardians, while the Sunday 1st XI romped to a 104 run win over Knowle…
Saturday 1st XI away at Old Edwardians
Ed’s batted first and looked comfortable early on but were prevented from mounting a mammoth target when paceman Paul Thomas bowled a brilliant spell towards the end of the innings taking 3 wickets in the process.
Berkswell were set a challenging target of 205 with opener Akhlaq Mohammed composing an assured 50 to bring the target within range.
Mark Fraser steered Berkswell’s middle order to a hard fought 20 point victory with an unbeaten 48.
Opener Akhlaq said,
“This was a superb team performance, where all the boys contributed something to the final result. It’s great to see the team put in a performance like this after losing last week.”
Sunday 1st XI Crush Knowle
Berkswell enjoyed a day at home entertaining vistors Knowle.
Berkswell compiled an impressive 226 for 9 with contributions coming in all down the order.
John Tickle top scored with a majestic 66 with significant other contributions from Khizar Zaman (38) and youth team player Josh Audi (41).
“John & Josh were magnificent” claimed skipper Craig Burgess, “Josh just took the game away from them at a critical stage of our innings.”
When Knowle replied they were always behind the rate with Hancock and Audi applying early presure and snapping up 3 early wickets between them.
Knowle never recovered and closed 104 runs behind on 126 all out.
When asked what made the difference since the previous week’s disaster vice captain Dominic Martin explained,
“It was all down to the skipper’s team talk at half time, it was legendary.”
When asked to elaborate he went on,
“Well it involved grazing, munching giraffes’s and squeezing, that’s all I can say really, the rest is classified.”
So on Week 3 of the Raftery Arden Sunday League Berkswell look set for a strong promotion challenge under the maniac Burgess.
